To join The American Legion at Post 5, you must have served at least one day
of active military duty during one of the following qualifying periods, and
have been honorably discharged or still be serving honorably:

April 6, 1917 – November 11, 1918 (World War I)

December 7, 1941 to present (any service since the start of World War II)

since December 7, 1941, you qualify.

Why Join Post 5

Your Buddy Still Needs You

The friendships forged in service don’t end at discharge. American Legion Post 5
exists so that veterans of every era — and from every branch — can stay
connected, support one another, and continue to serve.

When you join Post 5, you join:

Veterans you’ll recognize. Members of Post 5 served in every conflict and
every branch from World War II to the Global War on Terror. The shared
experience is real, and the community at Post 5 reflects it.

A century of community impact. Since 1925, Post 5 has supported veterans,
their families, and the broader Rome community. Your membership keeps that
going.

National voice. With over 1.8 million members nationally, The American
Legion advocates for veterans’ benefits, healthcare, and rights at every
level of government.
