Your Buddy Still Needs You

The friendships forged in service don’t end at discharge. American Legion Post 5 exists so that veterans of every era — and from every branch — can stay connected, support one another, and continue to serve.

When you join Post 5, you join:

  • Veterans you’ll recognize. Members of Post 5 served in every conflict and every branch from World War II to the Global War on Terror. The shared experience is real, and the community at Post 5 reflects it.
  • A century of community impact. Since 1925, Post 5 has supported veterans, their families, and the broader Rome community. Your membership keeps that going.
  • National voice. With over 1.8 million members nationally, The American Legion advocates for veterans’ benefits, healthcare, and rights at every level of government.

What We Do — Locally

Membership at Post 5 isn’t a passive thing. Here’s what members are involved in throughout the year:

  • Funeral honor guards for veterans of every branch, regardless of Legion membership — a service we provide free to the families of those who served.
  • Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances at local cemeteries and community gatherings.
  • Scholarships for Rome and Floyd County students.
  • Sponsorship of Boys State delegates from local high schools.
  • The Oratorical Contest — supporting high school students in their study of the U.S. Constitution.
  • Parades, memorial dedications, and community events throughout Rome and Floyd County.

What You Get

Beyond the camaraderie and the chance to give back, members of The American Legion qualify for member-only discounts on travel, healthcare services, and many consumer products — see legion.org/benefits for the national benefits catalog.
